Edwardian Skirts,Edwardian Era Skirts
The Edwardian era is said to have set landmarks in the field of art and fashion. King Edward VII, the monarch on whom this period is named was a liberal soul with an open mind. His short reign of about a decade changed the lives his subjects. Conservatism and formal thought took a back seat in his reign to give way to fresh and bold thoughts.
Women who were never treated as equals in the society but as a mere person to get married to someone in the high society started being given equal footage in the society. They were no more brought up just to get married but to match the men on an equal footing.
As far as fashion is concerned, the Edwardian era set forth new trends for one and all. This era is often regarded as the one which gave birth to the popular fashion industry. Colours which were considered in the Victorian era were shown the way out. The period of dark colours was over and now came up the new phase of bright and light shades.

Pastel colours were also a unique addition to the fashion world. Floral patterns received widespread popularity as part of the Art Nouveau movement. In womens dressing this era saw the demise of the bustle and the beginning of a growing trend of wearing longer sleeves. The trend of hourglass shaped silhouette also came to an end and the new visible silhouette was that of a mature woman. Health corsets replaced the tight fitting corsets of the Victorian era.
Women now dressed in tight fitting attires with puffed up chests known as the pigeon breast shape. Waists became curvier with the growing trend of a narrow waist which sloped from the top to the bottom. Skirts usually brushed the floor. The more expensive ones often came with a train. These skirts were very popular during the Edwardian era and were even preferred for day dresses.
Towards the end of the Edwardian era the fashion houses of Paris had come up with a completely different silhouette. Hips were narrowed down and waists became thicker in this new silhouette. The sexiest of skirts started being made henceforth. Skirts left the floors and proceeded towards the ankles. These shorter skirts created a trend which has ever since been a hit with some minor emergence of the longer skirts for short periods.
